For several decades now, a methodical campaign of Islamist entryism has been slowly but surely undermining parts of European societies.
Organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood, financed and supported by states such as Qatar and Turkey — or, from another ideological perspective, Iran — have managed to infiltrate political, media, civil society, and even economic networks in Western Europe.
This phenomenon is no accident.
It is based on a carefully calculated strategy: to exploit the freedoms offered by European democracy in order to subvert it from within.
Under the cover of “interfaith dialogue,” “minority rights defense,” or “social justice,” these Islamist networks are in fact seeking to impose a theocratic, authoritarian, sexist worldview fundamentally incompatible with the core values of European democracy.
Even more worrying is the fact that certain factions of the European left, historically attached to secularism, human rights, and gender equality, have, out of ideological blindness or electoral cynicism, agreed to ally themselves with these Islamist actors.
Out of political calculation or naivety, they turn a blind eye to the authoritarianism, antisemitism, homophobia, and misogyny promoted by these groups, mistakenly believing they are thereby strengthening their struggle against “capitalist oligarchy” or “Western imperialism.”
This historical blindness is tragically reminiscent of the disastrous mistakes of the 20th century, where unnatural alliances, such as the Hitler-Stalin Pact, precipitated the world into catastrophe.
Today, part of the European left is betraying its most sacred principles: those of freedom, reason, gender equality, and the fight against all forms of fascism — including those disguised under the cloak of religion.
What Europe must understand and urgently act upon:
- The Muslim Brotherhood and its networks must be recognized for what they are: a theocratic far-right movement aiming to destroy democracy from within.
- Foreign funding (especially from Qatar and Turkey) of associations, religious centers, and media linked to the Muslim Brotherhood must be strictly regulated, if not outright banned.
- European states must defend their democratic sovereignty by sanctioning any Islamist interference in public affairs.
- A lucid coalition among defenders of democracy — from the left, center, and republican right — must be built to counter Islamist entryism without naivety or hesitation.
- Actively supporting reformist and progressive forces within the Muslim world, whether secular or moderate traditionalist (such as those emerging from the Abraham Accords), is essential to prevent the surrender of the field to fundamentalism.
The situation is grave.
If Europe continues to indulge in the illusion that radical Islamism could be an acceptable political or electoral partner, it will open the door to a historic regression of its freedoms.
Resisting today is not only about defending Europe.
It is about defending the very idea of liberty and human dignity against a deadly ideology.
